Lightweight
2.) Kills bacteria and viruses in the water. A bonus for you since we definately don't want any more germs infecting you like last time!

Although it won't remove poisons, I don't think you'll have to worry about poisonous chemicals in the streams out there.

This site did a really good review and provided some good tips (e.g. Don't put ice in your water before purifying since the UV rays can't properly pass through ice cubes, etc.):

http://www.thetravelinsider.info/travelaccessories/steripen.htmJonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13275664685558526436noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8495431905223962790.post-84374529135604947592007-08-17T22:54:00.000-07:002007-08-17T22:54:00.000-07:00That is a most unusual looking little device. He said to tell you to look for him at Cascade Crest. :-)Sarah Elainehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06165906925703092225noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8495431905223962790.post-66041502780324822007-08-17T19:07:00.000-07:002007-08-17T19:07:00.000-07:00Yes happy B-DAY btw! This looks funky but worth carrying in case of the need for water in the backcountry...let me know how it works.Ryanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18005376405814639115noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8495431905223962790.post-5647770659890051712007-08-17T14:37:00.000-07:002007-08-17T14:37:00.000-07:00Happy -belated- birthday, Eric! In all seriousness, I've backpacked with a person who had this, and it was the niftiest little contraption. As someone who has suffered the consequences of (unintentionally) drinking untreated water, I'd carry it verus not treating. Dysentary sucks!Meghanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01328667395623963868noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8495431905223962790.post-54560223028974316072007-08-17T12:12:00.000-07:002007-08-17T12:12:00.000-07:00Annette - Next time I'm looking for a yes or no an...Annette - Next time I'm looking for a yes or no answer I'll try that!Journey to a Centumhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06294889164059934956noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8495431905223962790.post-26641697903766029562007-08-17T11:43:00.000-07:002007-08-17T11:43:00.000-07:00Kinda looks like you're supposed to pee on it. I think I'll loan the Depends. That way Rob won't need to carry any more weight than he has to during the event. I'm sure there would be more "Hester Joy" if he were to drink from the streams.Journey to a Centumhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06294889164059934956noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8495431905223962790.post-67264709269965941242007-08-17T07:21:00.000-07:002007-08-17T07:21:00.000-07:00Rob might need this on his Plain idea.Rob might need this on his Plain idea.Olgahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00493291972954387932noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8495431905223962790.post-88504866108629450372007-08-16T21:26:00.000-07:002007-08-16T21:26:00.000-07:00Rob - I like being one with nature as much as the ...Rob - I like being one with nature as much as the next guy. I don't want to be one with the toilet.

Olga - There is actually a warning in the instructions for this Water Thingy not to use it on any part of your body. I'm sure they are concerned about sunburn or something.

I look forward to seeing you next weekend!

I certainly would not carry the SteriPen during a race unless it meant being able to carry less weight.Journey to a Centumhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06294889164059934956noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8495431905223962790.post-54535088566200845762007-08-16T20:26:00.000-07:002007-08-16T20:26:00.000-07:00This looks mighty suspesious to me and reminds me....This looks mighty suspesious to me and reminds me...not for public blogs thingy.
But in general, I am with Rob - drink up, worry later, and worse comes to worse, loose a pound or few in a toilet:)
OK, very immature. You can tell me that you told me so when I have to wear diapers everywhere I go when I get giardia.robtherunnerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05066981363064781863noreply@blogger.com
