I've never run the 17 mile Norse Peak Wilderness loop from Corral Pass but I've been told it's beautiful. My friend and pacer extraordinaire Steve is all for the run and I thought I'd invite any others that would like to explore this trail as well. This will be a low key training run. Bring your cameras because if the weather cooperates we should get some great views of Mount Rainier, Knoble Knob, and a couple of alpine lakes.
Date: Sunday, October 21
Time: TBD (Start around 8:00 AM)
Elevation Gain: 3420 feet
Highest altitude: 5920 feet
Unsupported: carry what you need, bring water filter if you think you need it.
Permits: Northwest Forest Pass required
Getting There: East on State Route 410 to milepost 56.2. Turn left on Forest Service Road 7174, a narrow steep road, for the 6-mile climb to Corral Pass. The road is posted as not passable for cars with trailers. Parking is available near the trail head near the Corral Pass Campground.
Camping on Saturday night is an option. You will probably need to defrost yourself before the run if you camp. Depending on how the weather has been we may encounter some snow. I can keep an eye on the conditions and let folks know what we might be facing.
This run is detailed in Cheri Pompeo Gillis's book 50 Trail Runs in Washington

I'm leaving a comment, but I don't want to join you. I'll be busy running a marathon that day with the other girls down in bee-yoo-tee-ful SF. Thank goodness Steve is going along to keep you on the path!
I'd give my right arm to join you Eric! It looks incredible! Unfortunately I'm on the wrong side of the North Atlantic Ocean. I wish.......enjoy!
Yeah, between the two of us, we won't get lost (for long as least). I told Jamal about the run last night and he is interested. I bet Hester, Paul, and Luis would be in as well.
I'm going to piggy back off Michelle, we'll be in bee-yoo-tee-ful SF!
And thank goodness Michelle and I aren't navigating us down there. =)
If I can run, I'll be there. I have a 100k the week b4 so we'll have to wait and see. Did you send in your name for the WS lottery?
I will be there - pending the conversation at home where I say that I have runs planned for the next three weekends in a row. And this is after I promised that I would "cut back" after CCC!
Those are great pictures - can you promise the same weather for us?
And one more thing, speaking for those who have one marathon medal in a drawer at home and that's good enough (per your comment over at Rob's)...it's called "that marathon was NO FUN AT ALL and I NEVER want to do that again." ;-)
Cool plan, Eric. Other than the fact I'm running a marathon in Indianapolis the day before, I'd love to take you up on the invitation!!!
Hope the day dawns wonderfully for you!
It's probably just easier to start at Camp Shephard, run up to Corral Pass, do the loop and then run back to Camp Shephard. That would make it a solid 50k+.
I'm also leaving a comment but I don't want to join you. My new Bible ("Fixing your feet") talks about the perils of running with a pack. I've never done that myself. Would require more training.
And since I'm now training for a marathon, I'll focus on that. You crazy bloggers have inspired me and egged me on enough that the training starts next week.
Enjoy the run. A mere 17 miles? Piece of cake for a pro like you.
Maaaaaannnnn. I love trails. Ray hates them. But, you always do the "fun" stuff when I'm busy and out of town. I will be joining your lovely wife for our own "fun" run that day! Maybe some day I'll get fast enough to keep up with you on some trails? Or will you at least send out the search teams for me later?
Jane
Looks great! I'll be running the Sister's Poker Run that day.
Notice how everyone's commenting, but no one wants to run with you? Do you stink, or something? Hah!
It's not that I don't want to run with you, it's that I'll be spending that weekend coaching my kids at Montana's State Cross Country Championships (Can I get a "Booooya!").
Have fun, though, looks awesome!
Meghan
PS. Rumor on the street is that you're going to be a slave this weekend, yes? Have fun chasing women around!
October 21st? Sorry, I have a previous commitment. :-)
Enjoy your run; sorry I won't get to meet you in bee-yoo-tee-ful SF.
Hmmmm.
wonder what the weather will be like for a long drive over there...
