Can you say PR?

I ran the Autumn Leaves 50K at Champoeg this weekend. It was a bluebird day that was perfect for running. Went out like I was running a 10K, or so I was told. Unfortunately it was my body that did the talking:-). In the last mile of my 5th lap of the 5 mile loop I saw Steve Stoyles father Bob taking pictures. I told him I had run a 3:35 marathon. The bad news was that I wasn't running a marathon. Can you say respect the distance? Needless to say my pace that averaged around 7:25 min/mile bumped down a bit slower with an average pace of around 8:40 for the finish. My finish time was a PR at 4:38:15 which was 22 min. faster than my previous PR.

The 50K was measured in Horton miles so final distance was 32 miles. I was so sore after the race finish that I didn't look forward to how I would feel the next day. Surprisingly I felt pretty good this morning.

Michelle, Jenny, Rob, Steve, Ray, and Jane also participated. Rob and Steve ran the 50 miler and both received their finishers belt buckles. The rest ran in the 50K with no DNF's. We also saw Karen W., Leslie M., Sr. Lopez, and many other Marathon Maniacs. That's Olga in the blue Montrail jacket who kept track of times and ran the aid station.

Wonder what you'd do if you didn't go out with top runners at 10k speed (or was it a 5k speed?). But you held on, even though smiles less as time wore off:) Congrats on a PR, and one time you get to start first 5M with me to see what you can do with normal appropriate pacing...just imagine the feeling leaving me behind and dusting every runner in the LAST 10 miles, not first! OK, I reprieve, you did good:) Great to see you guys!

The new camera seems to work good, despite you dropping it yesterday! Another great weekend!

Thanks for driving down and the great photos. I remember you taking that first one of the trees while Michelle and I ate. Glad you posted it, it's beautiful. Great run yesterday!

Congrats on your PR! We were spoiled, it was such a beautiful day! Marc says thanks for letting him pass you. Yeah, he was running the 10k, but he has to get his ego boosts where he can. ; ) : )

No one said you had to be smart to run ultras. Pacing Schmacing! You went out and left it all out on the course and were rewarded with a well deserved PR. Thanks for the pictures.

Nice pics Buzz, you were looking marvelous for the first 20. A minor math error and five more miles on tired legs is just good training and character building. The weekend was a blast and you got a nice PR to boot. What could be better than that.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that for some reason I had it in my head that I only needed to run 5 laps in this race. I realized I had to run six laps sometime during my 4th. Oh well, I wasn't too serious about this race and it showed. I had fun!

22 minutes, that's a solid PR, just think what you might do with a saner pacing strategy!

Wow! You are amazing! You were looking strong when I saw you. (Did you figure out I was the crazy lady yelling your name?) :) Nice run. That's quite a way to beat your previous time - 22 minutes! You don't mess around, do you?

I feel like I don't even know you anymore!!? A 3:35 marathon? Alien! Well, I guess I won't cop to how fast I ran "just" a marathon this weekend! Wonderful job, with or without Horton miles!

All of your running is just AMAZING and a PR to top it. Way to go!!

Please do not say Horton again. I am no fan of him and after he responded to an email that my husband sent him I can say that I will never do another event that he is director of. What a jerk!! Very sad indeed.

Anyway, thank you for your kind comments following my MMTR race. I have searched hign and low for a somewhat local 50 mile trail race within the next few weeks but no luck. Sent out several emails but each time I receive an email back that they are more than full. Oh well... next year I guess.

Nice work Trail Scat! I saw Leslie and Pigtails at iUWR the day after and felt so bad for both of them. Pigtails was sporting two very messed up quads and a swollen knee (and she still ran!). Leslie had some kind of tendon issue in her foot that prevented her from running and she was around for moral support which alot of us needed.

See ya at the Ghost!
