Greenwater Lake Run / Norse Peak Wilderness

Nothing like a 12.5 mile Tuesday morning trail run up in the Norse Peak Wilderness near Mt. Rainier to clear ones head.  Steve Stoyles and I headed up Hwy 410 to the town of Greenwater then drove 9 miles of forest service roads to the Greenwater trail head.  When we arrived it was a crisp 27 degrees F with sunshine beaming down on us.

The parking lot was at the cusp of the snow line so there was a dusting of snow on the trail at the start of our run.  Thanks to Steve for providing the pictures for this posting.  I have not replaced the camera I broke a couple of months back and it's impacting my blog posts.  We wanted to make it the entire 7 miles up to Echo Lake but decided to turn back just .3 miles away due to deep snow, slippery ice, and painful stove piping.  Steve managed to entertain me with a very quick fall on a nice snow covered ice patch.  Somehow even though he was the one who fell I ended up being the one bleeding from the sharp ice crust when we were stove piping.

Training is going well for WS100 with 6 Ultras run so far this year.  Five of the events were 50K's and one was a 6 Hour event where Steve and I managed to run 38 miles.  We have also been able to sneak away for some nice long mid-week trail runs and a PR run of the 12 Summits course that is about 32 miles with 10,500 feet of climbing.

Run Happy my Friends!
