Tough Stuff Double

ARRGG! After spending an hour writing the long version of my report my computer crashed and I lost everything. I'll try again tomorrow.

Here's a picture of me at mile 43 of the Capitol Peak run. I'm smiling because I had finally climbed my way out of Hell (Hells Loop) and was able to run down hill all the way to the finish. I ran the first two loops with Arthur and Shawn then went on my own through Hells Loop. I'm also smiling because the weather was beautiful and while I had tough times I was never at a point where I felt like I couldn't keep moving forward.
50 mile finish time 10:18:53
Eugene Marathon was well organized with another bluebird day and a great course. I struggled a bit at mile 18 but was able to muster a 7:43 pace for the last mile.
Marathon finish: 3:46:14
Injury Report:
  1. Sore jaw from chewing same piece of gum for an entire marathon
  2. Right IT Band barking some. Rest and Ice should do the trick.

You forgot to add; the drives times, Five hours of driving after the 50m and 5 hours or driving home after the marathon! That's the killer part! Well done Eric!

3:46... hmmm, I guess you were really slacking off during the 50 on Saturday. I Knew It!!!

This is the first jaw injury I have heard of from running. I would have given in by half wayy and spit it out. But you're in training for a 100 mile chew for Western.

I was impressed by your quick 50 time and thought you maybe overdid it for the double weekend. The marathon time proves you are "The Man" or as Tom says "The Animal". We can talk about what kind of animal at Watershed.

Excellent runs, Buzz

Holy cow Eric - you must have really smoked the last 22 miles on Saturday to get that time! And I never knew you were such a fast marathoner too! Dang, I'm glad I got to run with you on Saturday. At your rate, from now on you'll just be a little spec in the distance!

Congrats on a great double. I am sure with the age grade factor you have bragging rights within the club. I wasn't surprised at all by either of your times.

Who's better than you? Nobody!

43 miles and you look like you've just jogged half an easy mile.

Admirable. And to run a 3:43 marathon the next day: wow! I'm speechless.

Way to go. That's about the most impressive double I've ever seen. I think it's incredible that you were able to accelerate at the end of the marathon after all the miles you'd already raced. Little wonder that your IT band is barking.

Get yourself a beer ... and relax.

Wow. You're amazing. Congratulations on your incredible feat! And your incredible feet. Did you read Amby Burfoot's account of the Comrade's ultra in the June Runner's World? I kept thinking of you as I was reading it. It sounded like hell. I think you should do it. :-)

Nice double Eric! Don't you wish the marathon was first? Then no one could say you were slacking on the 50 ... uh, er, you were slacking on the 50 by the way! ;-)

But you ran a 76.2 mile weekend - I ran 20 ... who am I to say?

Nice work getting those miles on your legs.

I tried to post earlier when I caught your post, but couldn't submit via my PDA, so I'll say it now - You rock.

See ya @ Tacoma!

Heck of a double! Much better day for running than volunteering. I ended up injuring my achilles posting poem signs up the grunt. I would have ended up better if I would have run the race! You looked real strong on the 50, I'm not surprised you did so well in Eugene. You are awesome!
