Death Race Results

Just a quick post to say I survived the Death Race with a time of 19:31:46. In one word "Brutal". Managed to place 4th in my age group and 23rd overall in the solo division. I got lost in the dark on the last section of the course adding 4-5K extra credit to the course.

Ran with Terry Sentinella from Anacortes for the first three legs and then he took off and placed 11th overall and 3rd in his age group with a 17:04:11.

Michelle was the best "Crew Chief" on the course and served a dual roll helping both Terry and myself.

Had the pleasure of meeting Sarah and her brother Aaron from Calgary. Sarah ran leg 5 in the relay, see her blog for details.

I had additional support from the "Trail Angel" Leslie who kept popping up along various sections of the course. She also came up with some killer mashed potato fuel for me at the fourth and last major aid station. She smoked the 5th leg on a relay team.

I will post pictures and provide a detailed race report when we return home from vacation. Thanks for reading!

Eric,

You rock, man. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting you and Michelle. I enjoyed drinking beer with you even more. You're the first ultra runner I've ever personally met and you impressed the hell out of me. Michelle is as charming as she is kind and sincere. What a great team you make!

Go, Death Racer!

Wild and brutal. Congratulations!

Congratulations, Eric! I would expect a race with the word Death in the title to be brutal, anything else would be false advertising.

You're an inspiration. I'm looking forward to the pictures and report.

Saw the results yesterday, Eric, and was thrilled to know you made it.

This write up is great news. All those dozens of Peak runs on the weekends paid off, big time!

Can't wait to hear the details...wow, lost in strange woods at night!!! Glad you didn't run into a grizzly with little bells and pepper-smell!!

Gee, Eric!!! So awesome! Can't wait to hear details on brutality - did you need a diaper change? Did the bears and cougars tried to eat your bony self? Did you puke? How was it???

Way to go! It doesn't sound like you got to mix it up with any bears though. They probably couldn't have kept up with you anyway.

Wow. What are all these strange sounds coming from your blog? Sounds like you had some time to stop and whip out the microphone during the run :)

Congrats and hope you are resting up well!

Were you gentle with Terry? You didn't go all Mad Monkey on him? He's a prime candidate for the Mad Monkey Club with that hair. Congrats on the finish superstar. That Death Race is tough!

Next time put you should put a beer in your drop bag on Hammel - I have heard through the grapevine that this is a very effective strategy for Leg 4. Sorry to have missed you in Banff and hope you squeezed in a little relaxing with you honey in your holiday time!!

Big Hugs to you and Michelle.

Congrats on making it through Death :) That getting lost sounds a bit scary (well, to me at least :P) but it's amazing that even with that you were still able to do so well!

Looking forward to the full report

Hey, TrailScat~! Just thought I'd let you know that I went hiking on Monday with 2 friends from work and came across a grizzly on the path. No, I am not kidding.

Lucky for us, the bear was more interested in the berry buffet provided by nature than in smelly humans. We hooted and hollered and backed away slowly(ish).

All's well that ends well.

Now where's your race report, dammit? :-)

Sarah - You should have had me along on your hike! I am apparently the human bear repellent! No need for me to waste my money on bells or sprays. Bears apparently fear me.
